What do you see when you look in the mirror - a well put-together fashionable woman or a crumpled disaster? According to a new poll, we Brits are the worst dressed people in Europe. Even Germans and their shell suits came out better than the British, who were described as looking 'thrown together' and wearing 'crumpled clothes'.
So what's gone wrong? According to Ciao (Mircosoft's price comparison site) who commissioned the poll, we Brits favour cheap togs over quality clothes.
"The Primani habit has led Brits to sartorial disaster," said a Ciao spokesman, referring to the nation's favourite cheap and cheerful store, Primark.
Or perhaps we just work such long hours we don't have time (or the energy) to go shopping.
"Britain is recognised as one of the hardest working nations in Europe - we have longer working weeks and we spend more time in the office than almost any of our European cousins," a Ciao spokesman said.
"As a result we have next to no time to go shopping; we are just diving into the nearest store to grab the first thing that takes our eye."
Nearly half of those polled (44 per cent) named the British as the worst dressed nation. Germany came a close second with 33 per cent, followed by the Spanish with 15 per cent and Italians with three per cent of the vote.
How depressing - we might have to nip into Primark on the way home just to cheer ourselves up!

Here people don't think about a fashion, they like a comfortable clothes. In any age woman has to think, how does she look. Sometime woman after 40, who are caring about her face and body, looking better, than girl in her 25.

The British dress sense is non existent. Layers of ill fitting cheap clothes, short tops over long shirts, 3/4 length trousers. Jeans with belts around the crutch and arses around the knees, vests, sweat shirts covered in colour clash logos, black screwed up polo shirts, middle aged people with baseball caps and shorts, gross thick soled plastic trainers, no wonder we are the laughing stock of the World Not to mention dirty long uncombed hair and studs in the ears and every orifice. And tattoos.

Where do you live ????? I don't see people like this everyday !!! Maybe once in a while I will see someone looking unkempt or a fashion victim. Where are all these middle aged people in baseball caps ??? I though they lived in America !
I make a real effort to look good, and so does everyone I know.

What about the French? Hello, but who thinks Chino's are a good idea? No-one! And in France, they seem to be the next big thing. Ewww.
And I don't see that many badly dressed brits. I mean, of course some people have no fashion sense at all, but they can live anywhere, not just Britain!

I agree totally. When you go to other parts of europe for instance, Italy, France and Spain you notice that people dress with style. They wear different colours - not just mundane black and grey. They accesorise with beautiful costume jewelry. Jogging bottoms are strictly for the house and for exercising.
But in this country the majority of people no longer make effort - Primark is the order of the day and sadly everyone just starts to look the same - boring. They do not co ordinate colours, do not wear clothes that suit their shape, they don't exercise and just can't be bothered. This country has taken over from USA look at the obesity rates in UK - its shocking for such a small country. When you wear something stylish people assume you are a celebrity or stuck up.
There is nothing nicer than seeing a man wearing clothes that fit and look stylish. Also when a woman wears clothes that accentuate their femininty.
