Sarah KillenWhen late-night US talk show host Conan O'Brien was barred from TV appearances, he took to Twitter to keep his fans informed.

But having amassed over half a million followers, the former Tonight Show host became aware that he himself was following nobody.

So he picked one dedicated follower at random – and it changed her life overnight.

When O'Brien left US network NBC, he was barred from appearing on TV for several months.

His Twitter following quickly grew as he reached out to fans from his television exile.

Having realised he was much-followed but not much of a follower, O'Brien posted the following tweet: "I've decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs.

"Sarah Killen, your life is about to change."

And so it did.

Sarah's Twitter following grew from just three to 20,000 in the space of a week and she is reportedly picking up 150 new followers every minute (not to mention a flood of media interview requests).

The Telegraph quotes Ms Killen, from rural Michigan, as saying: "It's totally nuts."

If her fiancé John Slowik Jr has his way and Conan O'Brien agrees to be best man at the couple's wedding, it could get nuttier still.
