Back in the seventies, the medallion man, with his open shirt and thickly furred chest were all the rage. But according to new research, the ladies aren't impressed by a hairy chest. In fact, at the most fertile time of the month, the ladies find the smooth torso the sexiest.
Though the hairy chest has long been associated with macho men, it turns out that the furry fellas tend to have higher levels of the female hormone oestrogen, which could affect virility.
So, while they may be more "homely and reliable", the hairy men may be losing out in the love department as women subconsciously opt for a man who is more likely to give them a baby.
But it's not all bad news for the hairy boys, as post-menopausal women prefer a bit of fur.
Researchers at Turku University in Finland showed 550 women pictures of 20 men both before and after they shaved off their body hair.
While only 30 per cent of the younger women liked their men hairy, 60 per cent of older women were attracted by a hairy chest.
That could, however, be down to all those happy memories of Tom Jones.

What?! whoever wrote this is clearly not familiar with human physiology and biology. Body hair growth is a result of high levels of TESTOSTERONE not OESTROGEN, men with high level of oestrogen rarely have body hair due to their lack of testosterone. High levels of testosterone promote virility so the hairier a guy is the more fertile he is, check your facts before you print them.
