Left: Daisy Lowe's transfer tattoo. Centre and right: Models at the Chanel catwalk show in SeptemberFor many of us the transfer tattoo will bring back memories of Disney characters proudly displayed to playground pals.

But these days they have become a fashion must-have (although they are just a tad more classy than we remember them).

Onlookers may have been perturbed by model Daisy Lowe's chain style body art as she flashed her shapely thigh.

The 20-year-old, however, has simply succumbed to the transfer tattoo trend inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's September Chanel show.

At the barnyard-style catwalk show, models were seen wearing chain or pearl designs on wrists, thighs and necks, avoiding the need for any actual jewellery.

And Chanel has even given it a name – "decalomania". The label explains: "Both modern and poetic, they cleverly recall the emblematic codes of Chanel.

"Chains interlaced with leather wrap around wrists or form an elegant garter.

"Behind a leg, a bouquet of wildflowers adds a bucolic touch. As for the pearls, they adorn the skin with subtle radiance in a chromatic unison of black and skin."

Crikey... the transfer has certainly moved on since we were kids.

While the catwalk models had their tattoos hand-painted by make-up artist Peter Philips, a collection of transfers inspired by his designs is set to be launched this spring.

Available exclusively at Selfridges and Chanel stores, the 55-piece sets will retail at £49 and are the first high-end "beauty branding" product to go on sale.

Selfridges' beauty director David Walker-Smith told the Daily Mail: "Chanel tattoos will be on every beauty queen's lust list. Body art is a big trend for 2010 and we predict a waiting list frenzy."

Even better, you won't be left with a 'so last year' ink embarrassment.
