Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has been named the 'beauty icon of the decade' in a new poll.

The survey of 3,000 people, commissioned by Superdrug, saw Jolie, famous for her pout and her charity work, beat one-time love rival Jennifer Aniston into second place.

Steve Jebson, Commercial Director for the high street pharmacy, told The Telegraph: "Angelina Jolie is not a conventional beauty but her strong character shines through her fabulous features to give her a unique standing in the beauty world.

"It's worth noting that while everyone talks about Angelina's pout we find that its her long thick lustrous hair that really makes British women envious, as well as a figure made for red carpet posturing."

Australian pop pixie Kylie Minogue took third place (we're guessing that's largely down to her enviably perfect behind) while Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta Jones and new national treasure Cheryl Cole finished in fourth and fifth places.

The top 20 featured some unusual choices – Megan Fox, Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson were only to be expected, but it was good to see TV presenter Holly Willoughby and the ever-youthful Joanna Lumley make an appearance.

A spokesman for Superdrug said: "This year to celebrate the new decade we decided to look past the face du jour and see who has really struck a beauty chord.

"But the message from our stores for 2010 is you don't have to be a film star or celebrity to be a beauty icon.

"Every single woman in Britain can walk into their local Superdrug and pick up products that will give them the confidence to turn heads on the high street.

"Unfortunately, we can't promise that any of them will end up marrying Brad Pitt."

More's the pity.
