We've all had a mad shopping moment and bought a piece of clothing that was unlikely to see the light of day.But the extent of our poor purchases has been made clear by a new poll, commissioned by Mycelebrityfashion.co.uk.
According to the survey of 1,623 women between the ages of 18 and 30, a quarter of us are wearing only 10 per cent of the clothes in our over-stuffed wardrobes.
An astonishing 91 per cent confessed to having an item with the tags still on it, while 79 per cent admitted to buying something that they knew they'd never wear.
The old trick of keeping clothes that were too small was also popular with 84 per cent insisting they'd 'get into it one day', while 46 per cent were holding onto ageing items in the hope of a fashion revival.
TV fashion guru Gok Wan is clearly having an affect though, as 67 per cent were keen on the idea of a capsule wardrobe containing 20 classic items.
However, liking the idea is one thing... putting it into practice seems to be wholly beyond most of us as 53 per cent revealed they were stuck in a rut when it came to their style choices and three in five own duplicate items.
Andy Barr, of Mycelebrityfashion, told the Daily Mail: "I think this new study proves that although plenty of women have shopped all of their lives, they still feel they have nothing to wear.
"It's really surprising that so many women wear so little of the clothes they actually own.
"The idea of a capsule wardrobe is becoming a more popular concept, but I think it will be a long time before the majority of females narrow their wardrobe down to just 20 staple items."
But since we're only wearing 10 per cent of our clothes and most of us have two pairs of the same jeans, it seems we're already half way there.
