Dating website BeautifulPeople.com is only for the brave as existing members rate the attractiveness of newcomers before they are allowed to join this exclusive club.
And apparently the Brits aren't too welcome. Fewer than 12 per cent of British men (that's one in eight) have been accepted and only 15 per cent (three in 20) of women who have applied have graced the pages of the site.
In fact, since the website was launched in the UK, of the 295,000 Britons who have applied, only 35,000 have become approved members.
We don't understand what they're getting at...

Where the chaps are concerned, it's the Swedish men who are proving the most successful with 65 per cent accepted, while Norwegian women are clearly taking good care of themselves – 76 per cent of those that applied have made the grade.
Managing director Greg Hodge, told The Telegraph: "Asking why British people are doing so badly is a tough question. It hurts me – I'm English.
"I think there is less emphasis on appearance in the UK than overseas. If you go to some countries they are very into how they look – very health and body conscious.
"The UK attitude is a bit more about kicking back and relaxing, and having a few drinks in the pub after work."
Which is a fair point. But bear in mind folks, that since the site went global just over two weeks ago, a whopping 1.8 million people from 190 countries have already been turned away.
So if you're included in that 83 per cent, you probably shouldn't feel too bad.

Shame that a few of those are IRISH and not British. Typical Yanks, no idea of where anywhere is in the world.

They always say never judge a book by its cover! thats how shallow BeautifulPeople.com are, i wouldnt give them the time of day.
All people have something to offer, its not just about pretty faces.
I HOPE THEY GO BUST, sounds like they are already allienating alot of potential customers! that dosent take a brain surgeon to work out, may be its bimbos running the business.

It doesn't really matter what beautifulpeople.com say about the British. I think that they have mixed up celebtity with beauty. There are not many celebrities who you can say are beautiful not even in the acting or pop worlds. Exceptions of course are David Beckham and Cheryl Cole arguably the most beautiful man and woman in the world. Hey who cares anyhow! Shallowpeople.com would indeed bring about the most vane and least sophisticated. I am content in the knowledge that the UK has left it's mark in the global sphere in business, finance ,engineering architecture etc. As well as this our beautiful English language is spoke everywhere in the world....How good is that! Over to you.........

Whoever created this article should be ashamed of themselves. Have you ever for one second thought what those celebrities might feel when they see their pictures plastered on a page about 'ugly' people. You sicken me. No wonder people have issues with their body image. When you dig within yourselves and find some degree of sensitivity maybe i might take in to account what you have to say.

Handsome is as handsome does! US idea of beauty usually means tall, blond, engineered teeth etc. That`s fine, but for myself, I prefer someone who makes me laugh, who has interesting things to say and who doesn`t think that he actually is the bees` knees. I think that Amy Winehouse, when she is well, has a rare beauty - she is NOT ugly at all, tho` she doesn`t meet the kewpie doll, Stepford wife model, and is all the better fot that.

l find it quite ironical that now that beautifulpeople.com has criticised the british for being ugly, that The Gallery, which often shows pictures of dishevellved or unflattering pictures of people, such as these now, is actually saying nice things about them when it suits them. Other times, l have seen similar pictures of celebs such as these and there have been really nasty comments flung at them by the Gallery. Just shows, in my opinion, the shallowness of human nature and the fact that you can`t believe anything you read. lnsincere is the word that springs most readilly to mind.

I think I just saw Helena Bonum Carter on a list of ugly people.
Clearly there is no hope for the rest of us then.

There are beautiful people, pretty people, not so pretty.... It seems to me that the line between being 'groomed' and actually good-looking has become blurred; Having regular facials, working out, a decent haircut etc mean you look taken care of and so make you appealing but they are no match for actual natural good bone structure, build, or genetics. The kind of people that use beautifulpeople.com are confined by their appearance- if that is all there is to them it's a shame. As a Brit, and one considered naturally good-looking, I don't really care about these stats; What I do care about is how what is attractive has become defined by some strange set of rules that would have most people eat themselves alive with worry that they don't comply. It's all gone a bit mad and, as long as someone takes care of their body, I'd be more attracted to their mind and sense of humour anyway.

I have to say i agree. I am shocked at the fat pig women these days with tattoos who dress like crap and drink like men. I think British women are the ugliest I have seen now on average except for Gypsies from Romania and Arab women. But British men are not too bad. Too many of us myself included are a bit overweight but only probably the Italians maybe are better looking on average. I was in a club in Exeter the other week and my god there was not 1 half attractive woman there and plenty of crocodiles! Go to Estonia and %90 of the women look like models
