This is possibly the best news of the whole year. Yes girls, according to the latest research a portion of chocolate each day could actually help to prevent wrinkles. We have science to thank for this exciting revelation as researchers at the European Dermatology London clinic have discovered that chocolate can protect the skin from the ageing effects of the sun.
The bad news for some will be that it only works with dark chocolate that is extremely high in flavanols, an antioxidant that occurs naturally in cocoa beans.
Volunteers in the study who ate dark chocolate were able to tolerate more wrinkle-causing UV light on their skin than those with the milk alternative.
But there's a catch. The choccy bars that you see on the supermarket shelves sadly just won't cut it, as they just don't have enough flavanols.
The researchers said: "The main mechanism is likely to be the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. But conventional chocolate had no such effect."
We are now relying on science to find the solution and create an anti-ageing bar... well, we live in hope.
