It is traditional on a first date for the man to treat his date to dinner without showing his horror when the bill arrives.

But there is good news for men across the country as a new survey reveals that women find the more frugal man a definite turn on.

Conducted by moneysupermarket.com, the results showed that 32 per cent found a little prudence more attractive than flashing the cash... which is lucky when you consider that almost one in four single men had no problem with using a money-off voucher to keep date costs down.

A third of male singletons also said they would insist on splitting the bill with one in seven refusing to leave a tip as they continue to tighten their belts.

With 43 per cent of single women happy to go on a second date despite these cost-cutting chaps, it appears that the days of the flash dinner and exclusive club may be a thing of the past.

Alistair Shrimpton, managing director of Dating Direct, told the Daily Mail: "With purse strings being tightened by both sexes, using a voucher has become a symbol of financial savviness without appearing too cheap.

"We have seen a real change in dating etiquette over the past few years. We have gone from an era of men expected to pay for dates to restaurant bills being split down the middle as a statement of equality."

Let us know what you think. Would you be horrified if your date suggested splitting the bill, or is it the cheap date with sex appeal?
